I fell asleep on the living room floor one night, and woke up around 1:00 AM. PBS had a Joe Cocker concert on that just started, I ended up going to bed at 3:00 AM.

I love Joe Cocker for many of the same reasons I love Michael McDonald, even though they are vocally polar opposites....McDonald is smooth as silk, but Joe is...well,he is not!....

And listen to that fucking keyboard, dude. 808s are fun, but like...the music industry kind of needs more MUSICIANS than it seems to currently have. It's been trying very hard to make celebrities. It has not been trying to make musicians. You get what I'm saying? Like yeah, the 80s and 90s had loads of celebrities, but they were all musicians BEFORE they were celebrities. It seems like the music industry is doing it all backwards. They're taking people they think will be marketable as celebrities, and then trying to turn them into musicians. Their success with this approach is predictable. Like this is why I think rock and roll has fallen to the wasteside so badly. Hip-hop has dominated the music industry because a lot these guys all start out as rappers, and then become celebrities. That side of the house still has their order operations in the right alignment. But it seems like they might be falling prey to that same mistake now too. A lot of the rappers I think people actually listen to are independent (ghost writers are also a huge problem. Snoop writes his own fucking rhymes) The music industry has a wealth of systemic problems that have always been there, but at least they used to still make good music. That just isn't the case anymore. Nobody is listening to anything from the labels these days. I think a lot of it is because the people in charge of these labels aren't musicians. They maybe thought they had good taste and would be able to spot talent, but that clearly is a missed bet. And again, I think their biggest flaw is that they're trying to build music around someone that they're trying to turn into a celebrity, instead of just finding good musicians and then making them famous. But with the ease of distribution in the digital age, the industry shenanigans and bullshit isn't worth it for artists that are actually competent. The industry still has loads of good cards. They're still massive organizations with tons of connections. It should still be a good deal to get signed with a major label. That they aren't able to properly leverage their assets and aren't able to sign good talent is because people just won't put up with it anymore. But also, I think the people running the show just don't know a God damn thing about music lol.

People are saying Post Malone is on drugs because of how he dances. I tell them to watch Joe Cocker. To fully emerge yourself in music and move with emotion is not something many people are comfortable doing but is the most sincere type of dance.
